BitTorrent File System, the first scalable decentralized storage system in the BitTorrent ecosystem launched the Testnet-Darwin which is an upgrade from its predecessor BTFS 1.0.

The latest BTFS 2.0 Testnet upgrade provides cross-chain support, multi-channel payments, and new smart contracts such as Vault Contract, Price Contract, and the Cheque feature which is a decentralized storage payment system.

Since the integration of BTFS, BitTorrent, and BitTorrent Chain, current DApp developers would now have the opportunity to share and serve their DApps to a bigger market.

The Core Features of BTFS 2.0 Testnet:

  • Decentralized storage payment system: Cheque
  • Node fund management contract: Vault
  • A new node management tool: BTFS Dashboard
  • More reliable and comprehensive APIs
  • New BTFS 2.0 website and developer documentation

BTFS 2.0 Testnet-Darwin network architecture mainly consists of the BTFS network nodes then it is divided into two roles which are the renter and the host.

Renters would be able to upload files by paying BitTorrent’s native crypto the BTT and hosts would be able to get rewards by providing storage to the BitTorrent network.

Both BTFS 2.0 Testnet and BitTorrent Chain are connected together which aims to build a new web 3.0 decentralized storage architecture by combining peer-to-peer storage and smart contracts.

What is BitTorrent?

BitTorrent is based in San Francisco and was founded on September 22, 2004, by Bram Cohen and Ashwin Navin. It is the largest decentralized P2P communications protocol for distributing data and large files over the Internet.

In 2018, BitTorrent was acquired by TRON Foundation and continued to provide support for their BitTorrent and uTorrent clients.

Since the BTTC re-domination plan, BitTorrent had been on a mission to grow bigger and better for all of its users and the launching today of the anticipated BTFS 2.0 Testnet-Darwin made it better which would allow users to take advantage of the core features that’s been added to the BitTorrent ecosystem.
