A dapp is coming, a dapp is coming! This is what people want and this is what they are getting. For those that do not know, a dapp is a decentralized app. Essentially, it is an application that has its backend code running on a decentralized peer-to-peer network instead of centralized servers. Now you know. So what is going on? It was recently announced by the Tron Foundation and Justin Sun that a dapp called TronChat was in the making. And it is already at the 60% mark in its development phase. TronChat calls itself the “Blockchain baby” of Instagram. Venmo, and Telegram. This is a strong claim but will it measure up?

These are the wonderful things that the TronChat team says their dapp will feature:

- Post photos, videos and stories — like you do on Instagram
- Chat — like you do on Telegram
- Create chatrooms and tip chatroom creators
- Send a message and attach TRX — like you do on Venmo
- Add more TRX to automatically record and see the recipient’s reaction
- Create premium content that can only be unlocked when a user pays you TRX (optional)
- Create subscription-based content for a TRX fee or charge per-post
- Tip other users in TRX
- Sign up for direct update notifications
The team goes on to say:

These features all fall in line with what we expect a Tron dapp to have. After all, Tron wants to connect content creators with their audience without having to involve third parties. And this is exactly what this dapp offers.
Is TronChat the next Killer Dapp?
Okay, here is where I have to give you my honest opinion. I think the concept is a decent “okay” one. I can see fantasy football pros selling their weekly draft analysis to the people they interact with. Or Billy Bob buying his homework from the smart girl. I can see that. But will this dapp really go the distance? I am not sure. I am having a hard time seeing how the non crypto peeps will adopt this. Most people are zombied out by their social media platforms. They cannot go a day without posting about their one of a kind coffee that they just had. As if anyone really cares. But it is what it is. And people seem to not care as much about their privacy as long as they get the attention they are seeking. Either way, as part of the Tron community, we need to try to change this.
